My Story

Early SPO Connection Member
Julius Walker Jr. is a dedicated educator, high school assistant principal, high school coach and former UMass football coach, and lifelong mentor to youth. An early SPO Connection member, Julius was first introduced to the program as a youngster by his older brother EJ, also an early SPO participant. From his earliest days, Julius demonstrated the focus, discipline, and curiosity that embody SPO’s founding philosophy:
“Listen and have fun; because if you listen, you’ll learn — and if you learn, you can and will be successful.”
Supported by an amazing family, Julius’s journey with SPO Connection quickly became a family affair — his father an active coach and his sister a fellow team member.
Julius achieved award-winning success as a standout high school and collegiate athlete. But his greatest accomplishments have come off the field, as a teacher, leader, mentor, and positive role model for countless young people.
Today, Julius is a true ambassador of SPO’s mission — mentoring and inspiring youth through athletic competition, while promoting accountability, integrity, and community values. Through both sports and education, he continues to instill life lessons that prepare young people to thrive as students, athletes, and good citizens.
